Does Room Temperature Matter When Growing Click & Grow Plants?

Does Room Temperature Matter When Growing Click & Grow Plants?

We’re sometimes asked whether room temperature matters when growing plants in your Click & Grow indoor garden. The simple answer is yes, room temperature is definitely something to consider! As a general guideline, the recommended average room temperature for all Click & Grow plant pods is 22°C (72°F).

For some plant pods in our collection, a precise temperature range can assist with faster germination and greater yields. You can check the ideal temperature range for a plant by clicking on its ‘plant care’ tab in our catalog or by using the Click & Grow mobile app. It’s important to keep room temperature in mind because outdoor conditions are not always an accurate reflection of indoor conditions, especially when heaters are used in winter and air conditioners are used in summer.

The majority of Click & Grow herbs prefer warm room temperatures, even up to 30°C (86°F). Fruiting plants such as chili peppers, sweet peppers and mini tomatoes especially enjoy the warmth as it promotes faster germination and growth. Salad greens, however, are heat sensitive and grow best between 18°C (65°F) to 24°C (75°F).

The majority of our salad greens are heat sensitive; higher temperatures can cause their taste to become bitter and inhibit the growth of new leaves. It’s worth keeping heat sensitive plants away from open windows or doors where they could be exposed to sudden, cold breezes.

Here’s a quick checklist of heat sensitive plants in our collection:

Salad greens

Arugula, Bloody Sorrel, Green Sorrel, Green Lettuce, Romaine Lettuce, Red Kale, Leaf Mustard, Pak Choi, Red Pak Choi

Fruiting plants

Dwarf Pea

Decorative plants

Black Pansy, Red Pansy, Busy Lizzie, Cornflower

Key takeaways:

  • As a general guideline, 22°C (72°F) is a good, average room temperature for all Click & Grow plants
  • Specific temperature ranges for each plant can be found in the plant catalog and the Click & Grow mobile app
  • Herbs prefer warmer temperatures up to 30°C (86°F)
  • Salad greens and other heat sensitive plants prefer cooler temperatures between 18°C (65°F) to 24°C (75°F)
